FEMME is a collaborative initiative that involves scholars, professionals of the film and television industries (directors, screenwriters, and producers), and the general public in investigating how women’s filmmaking practices change gender representations on screen and in society. It contributes to the writing of a new historiography of cinema by shedding light on the works of women in the media industry and aims to renew theoretical approaches to cinema and feminism by studying women’s films. The project includes screenings and filmmaking as experiences to be shared with students and pupils to foster a critical eye towards gender prejudice and inequalities.
