Photographie d’Alexandra Fleurantin

Bibliothèque Universitaire, Le Mans Université

09 September 2024 – 25 October 2024

The exhibition Les femmes Réalisatrices is a series of 25 portraits taken by photographer Alexandra Fleurantin. Most of the photos were taken during the annual festival Les Arcs film festival, held in Savoie in December. The festival promotes European cinema in all its diversity, including independent cinema. Each year, it invites the Lab Femmes de cinéma to discuss the issue of parity in front of and behind the camera, with workshops, a podcast, masterclasses and an annual study on the place of women directors in Europe.

About the Photographer :

A photographer and historian by training, Alexanda Fleurantin has worked for the press and published on subjects related to political ecology, including through a long collaboration with Editions Dehors. Her approach to photography approach was originally based on the documentary approach, inspired by the question of territory and the many ways of inhabiting it. After living in Paris for many years and documenting places that bear witness to our sometimes absurd or schizophrenic relationship with territory and the living (the Three Gorges Dam in China, the ghost towns of Pripiat near Chernobyl or Ordos in China, the shacks of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, the pharaonic constructions of Dubai), In 2012, she moved to Normandy, where she continues this work of photographic observation, as in the Death Valley series, produced in the Orne region in 2021, as well as a project on the Normandy coastline, Amers, which received CNAP support for documentary photography in 2022.
